SoCo and I don't mean the whisky

Alright who here is old enough to remember Something Corporate? Okay, does anyone remember my major obsession with not only the band but specifically frontman Andrew McMahon? Well, SoCo broke up several years ago probably 2005 or so. But, they had a 10 year reunion tour this summer. Last night, ahem ahem quiet please. Last night, I got to see the 10 yr reunion tour in Kansas City at the Uptown. Not, only did I expertly drive to downtown Kansas City I had the best navigator Jess Riggins sitting in my copilot seat. We got rockstar parking literally beside the building. I mean we looked like we owned the place. We proceeded to the door for our tickets and then quenched our hunger with some less than mediocre Indian food. Then we stopped into a little shop and looked at water pipes. At least I believe that is what you are supposed to call them. Whatever the case was the guys at the counter got mad at some teenagers for saying the B word that rhymes with L-O-N-G at a headshop. I guess that type of thing is pretty bad for business. After our incident we made our way to a little bar down the street. It was crowded with concert goers enjoying the air conditioning rather than sitting outside in 90 degree plus weather waiting for the doors to open. We enjoyed sipping a cool refreshing beverage and then proceeded to our show.
SoCo was wonderful. If I have said it once I have said it a million times, I love Andrew! They put on a great live show and specifically Andrew's voice, piano skills, and personality make it come to life. They were so money they didn't even need an opening band. They went straight in to "Straw Dog" a song about a girl named Jessica (ummm me duh). It was a great set and long filled with songs from there freshman and sophomore releases and they included one very special encore song on neither album. It is my favorite song and the song I plan to name my first child after, any guesses, anyone, okay fine you convinced me I will tell you. KONSTANTINE!!!!!!!!!!!! It was great and everyone sang along. They then followed this 10 minute ballad up with If U C Jordan in which Andrew stood up on the piano and played with his feet. It was an awesome ending to an even better show.

This is an old photo! 2003. None of the guys really look like this anymore. But, they still look great for being 27+.  After the show it was pretty crowded and my car was blocked in so we went back to the little bar down the street. Now there were plenty of red flags that should have warned us about this bar. But, we were hot, sweaty, and thirsty plus unobservant. Outside the bar we saw a very cute gay couple. These guys were just adorable and we even commented on how cute they were. Then we saw that the door was completely solid and it had no windows. Some of you may see these as warning signs, we did not. We went in and the bartender took our order and called us sweetheart. It was right under our nose and we didn't see it. We were checking out the cute guys across from the bar, one had an adorable faux hawk. We even saw an openly gay friend from college. At this point we were starting to catch on. As we looked around everyone was paired up. The guys next to us were joking and calling each other pet names. Everyone was with someone. We started to realize not only were we in a gay bar but it was all males. Our suspicions were confirmed when we saw a man come in with a hat, dark hose, a dress, and heels. His friends called him Tiara and he had hairy pits. At this point we decided to finish our drinks and see if my car was still blocked in. We stood in this line for a while not really sure what we were doing. Then someone said we were waiting for autographs. Sure enough not 5 minutes of standing in line we met Andrew and got photos with him. He signed our ticket stubs and told me how great my old school SoCo shirt was. He said it was his favorite shirt. He was incredibly nice. We enjoyed meeting him even if it was completely accidental. I mean what a good day. We finished out the evening eating at the golden arches. We spotted them from a distance and my car magically drove there all by itself. Before I knew what had happened I was sitting in a McDonald's drive thru. It was not my fault. My car did it on its own.
