Job

Here goes....I need a job. I don't want to sell skirts at Ala Moana. It's too far. It isn't what I want. What should I do? Anybody job recommendations on Hawaii? I have no idea where to start. This school thing is certainly not working out easily. I am still working on it but....it's not easy. So, I have been applying for other jobs. I applied at Foodland, Lowes, Borders, Home Depot. I tried to apply at Longs and at the bank but, its nearly impossible. Hmmm......I will keep trying. How many jobs a week should one be applying for if they are unhappy in their current situation? Going to the career center soon. Very soon. I will keep the world updated.

Still Raining but the adventures are looming in the future

Okay, it might be rainy today but, I have decided to make a list of things I want to do in Hawaii.
1. Celebrate the Chinese New Year with the Dragon Parade and such in Chinatown
2. Eat at Top of Waikiki - it's the only revolving restaurant in Hawaii
3. Surf Lessons
4. Whale Watching
5. Swim with dolphins
6. Snorkel w/sea turtles
6. Visit Shangri la (Doris Duke's house of Islamic Art)
7. Diamond Head Winery (taste some yummy wine)

Hmmmm I am sure I can think of three more. Well maybe later those are a few to start off. I will keep thinking.

Rain Rain Go Away

I live in a beautiful vacation spot. People spend thousands to come to Hawaii and experience the island revive a romance or enjoy a relaxing honeymoon. When you live here it isn't all vacation, especially not in Wahiawa. My example is its been raining almost everyday this week and several days last week. Rain you say don't complain. I know most of you in the mainland are dealing with snow and below freezing temperatures. I know I shouldn't complain about the rain, but it also leads to flooding. That really stinks. Also, rain makes people drive crazy or maybe that is just Hawaii. I mean people here drive crazy and the even crazier part is they don't honk their horn. If someone does something you are supposed to drive with ALOHA and just let them get away with it. Not me if someone tries to hit me I am going to honk my horn. Today an old man did not have a blinker on and yet nearly turned into my car. I honked at him and he looked at me then started to do it again. He was like an inch away from me. Okay so that was pretty crazy then later an SUV tried to get into my lane right where I was when I was on the highway. I had to honk at them so they didn't hit me. They crossed four lanes of traffic and then honked and flipped me off. It was strange. Why is it raining and everyone driving crazy. It is Christmas in Hawaii it is supposed to be warm and sunny and everyone is supposed to be happy.

Christmas Time is Here

So it is less than a week until Christmas. All the shopping is finished. The stress has subsided. I am just relaxing until the big day gets here. There are a few things I want to do with my Christmas break time. I want to see the Honolulu City Christmas lights by firetruck. It sounds so cool!

Best Books EVER!

So, people make these lists of best books. I am not sure if my list will really be this but, it will have some that I think are great. Some people might not be impressed with my literary tastes. If that is you, you can tell me your opinion or keep it to yourself. I would prefer rather than hearing negative comments that you choose to make your own list of GREAT books. I am sure if you have read more than two books then you have a favorite. These are in no particular order:

1. Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - This book was published in 2003. It was turned into a movie (w/subtitles) in 2007. I recommend reading the book. I think the movie can be skipped altogether.
Summary: The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who befriends Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of Afghanistan's monarchy through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime. It is a beautiful coming of age story about moral choices and how our choices affect us the rest of our lives. Also, the books is about friendship and how deep and meaningful are our connections with our friends and families.

2. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee- This book was published in 1960 and Harper Lee won a Pulitzer Prize. It was also made into a 1962 film by the same name that won three Oscars. I strongly recommend reading the book and watching the movie.
Summary: The primary themes of To Kill a Mockingbird involve racial injustice and the destruction of innocence. It is loosely based on an event that took place in Harper Lee's hometown when she was 10 years old.

3. In True Blood by Truman Capote- This 1966 book details 1959 murders of a small town Kansas family. It is the ultimate "True Crime" novel. It paved the way for the genre. Capote's preoccupation with his famous novel was documented in the 2005 movie, Capote.

4. Marley & Me by John Grogan- This book was published in 2005 and a movie by the same title came out in 2008. It starred Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson. The movie made me life and cry. However, I laughed and cried harder at the book than the movie. The book was absolutely hilarious. It is the ultimate how not to do-it-yourself. It is a backwards self help book. A young couple just starting their life out as journalists decide to start a family. Of course everyone knows the first step to starting a family is getting a dog. The couple does everything wrong. They weren't prepared for such an energetic and loving puppy. As they grow older and their family expands so does their loveable pooch Marley. We can laugh at their story because it isn't our dog and we can cry with them because all dog owners have experienced similar loss. It is a true classic written straight from the heart of one dog owner to touch the heart of all dog owners. Don't worry about possibly crying anticipate it from the get go and keep a kleenex box handy for the crying and for when you laugh so hard you will cry.

These are a few books to get an avid reader started. If you aren't much of a reader start your plight with Marley & Me and please save In True Blood for last.

Hawaii Vacation pt 1

So, can I just say Hawaii is amazing. I am sure it has faults but I am not concerned because they are overshadowed by its AWESOMENESS! The view when I go outside is amazing. Wow! People get to live here year round. I mean they live by the ocean. I pay a fortune to come visit it. So, today I saw this cool Buddhist temple (Byodo Temple in the valley of the temples Memorial Park) that was modeled after a really famous temple in Uji, Japan (The Magnificent Byodo-in Temple). It is a full scale replica and was constructed with NO NAILS. Funny thing was the only place I haven't seen over-run with Japanese tourists was the Japanese temple. I saw a big beautiful Buddhist statue. I also went to a botanical garden. There were tons of plants I couldn't identify and the sign said some were poison. Then I got sick. I am not sure if there is a correlation. That was not so fun but the other part was cool. Yesterday I went to the beach, drove the scenic route and did the tourist thing with loads of photos and ate at a really great hamburger joint. One of the BEST burgers I have ever had. I tried to snorkel but it was closed on Tuesdays. Tomorrow I am looking forward to a hike with a happy waterfall ending and a lookout over a palace with a beautiful beach ending. I wouldn't mind topping the day off with an umbrella drink. A girl can always dream right? Also, I am really looking forward to this weekend. I get to swim with sharks and go to a Luau and parasail. YEAH!!!!! I am also looking forward to next week Iolani (sp??) palace, Polynesian Cultural Center, Pearl Harbor, and a Hawaiin massage. Of course, I might do some other activities but those are ones I am particularly interested in. Mostly, I just love the weather and the view. It has been a bit rainy but it clears up very quickly. It is very different from Korea in that aspect. Korea rains seem to last for days but Hawaii no way. By the time you roll up your windows the rain has stopped.

FB Complaints and Compliments

So, is bookface the downfall of our nation? It has gone beyond just the fact that my boss might see me tagged doing a kegg stand at a college frat party I don't even remember attending. It is to the point now facebook seriously affects the way I see myself. It is doing some major self esteem damage. Not only are there a million unflattering photos of me, there are a million unflattering photos of me by myself being single and not doing anything spectacular. Seriously, the most exciting thing I did this entire week was go to a Passion party. (Don't Ask). Everyone has photos from their wedding with their incredibly hot spouse and beautiful bridesmaids who look amazing in short strapless dresses. They don't look ridiculous at all. Is that even fair? Then there are people with kids. Every photo is their child doing something cute. Congratulations you have the cutest kid in the world. They are going to grow up a facebook child. It is kind of like those celebrity children that can't lead normal lives because people are always taking pictures of them and commenting on how often they pooped and if they ate their vegetables. I mean do you want your child to turn out like Kathy Lee Gifford's poor son Cody? Do you? She talked about him so much she got fire from Regis and Kathy Lee. How do you replace someone who's name is in the title of the show. This isn't Lassie people!
STOP- Facebook does have an upside. Do you remember that girl or guy you hated from high school or college? Fear not they may have gained a couple hundred pounds. Better yet, they may have braces, glasses, or terrible acne breakouts in their thirties. They may cheer for the wrong football team. It gives you reason to hate them more. Maybe they married a short bald guy with a snaggle tooth. Or maybe that was you? Either way some people got their come up ins. The question I must ask myself "Am I one of them? Am I getting what I deserve? Maybe I do deserve to be jobless, homeless, careless, and spouseless? Or, maybe I am just down on my luck and facebook isn't magic karma?"
Karma or no karma facebook has many faces. It is up to each person to choose to look on the bright side and see the glass half full of something great like Pink Catawba wine or see it half empty. So which glass is your facebook glass?
I think today I will choose the empty glass. It is not so bad because I am not thirsty anyway since I just brushed my teeth.
